Now more than ever Alberta needs to stand up for its independence within Canada. With the federal Liberals trying to think of things to hinder and steal (or they use the word share) Alberta riches, Alberta needs to protect itself. The rest of Canada watches Alberta and are envious, as they should be, Alberta has worked hard to become economically successful and the new Premier of Alberta needs to protect Alberta’s economy and Albertans way of life. Its time for Alberta to stop being pushed around and stand up for it rights. See “Alberta’s independence in Canada” plan detailed below
Alberta’s independence in Canada: The Plan
Alberta has unsuccessfully attempted more independence from Canada, times are different now, we in Canada now have a respectable Federal government and Alberta choosing to gain further independence will not be seen as Alberta trying to separate. The Alberta firewall commission was misunderstood and its timing was not good because of the relationship with the rest of Canada.
Residents in Alberta need to be told how a more independent provincial government would benefit them directly. Alberta’s independence in Canada would benefit not hinder the Alberta advantage.
Alberta pension plan – Albertans need to be educated in respect to how and why an Alberta pension plan would benefit them directly. A public advertising and promotions campaign would inform and tell Albertans why they will want a provincial pension plan. The plan would have some incentives like registered retirement saving plan style of advantages. Albertans will have the choice to choose a limited number of investment plans and they would be assured that their money will be in their account with interest when they retire. Albertans can not depend on the federal government especially if the Liberals retake power in Ottawa.
Alberta Provincial Police Force – Other than potential cost savings, Alberta will be better prepared to tackle and focus on Albertan issues of the day like new illegal drug outbreaks, child pedophilia etc. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police will remain in the province to handle federal matters but in a reduced capacity. Albertans need to know how a provincial police force would benefit them directly and like above a positive education campaign would have to be presented. Alberta has different needs than the rest of Canada and a provincial police force directed by Albertans to focus on Alberta issues is required.
Alberta Immigration – Alberta needs to directly control its own immigration. Currently Alberta faces great concerns about worker shortages and acquiring a proficient work force required to feed the economy. See “New Direction for Alberta’s Immigration” solution later in this letter.
Heath, Education – Health, education, immigration and natural resources are provincial jurisdictions. Why are all four areas being funded and controlled federally? Federal Canada wants to regulate and control these areas but does not want to pay for them. Alberta needs to slowly change this, over the years these jurisdictions have been manipulated and corrupted by federal Liberal governments.
If health is a provincial responsibility then the federal government needs to be removed totally from this area. The problem is how it is funded, people in Alberta pay income tax to the federal government and in turn the federal government gives the money back to the provincial government by method of transfer payments. This method is wrong in so many ways and is the major cause of poor heath care programs in Canada. The solution is to directly opt out of the Canada heath plan and tax Albertans directly for heath services. Alberta would recover the costs by changing the tax system.
See “New Alberta Tax System” plan detailed below.
In addition, Albertans need to be sent a quarterly heath bill or statement showing the true cost of their heath care costs. It’s amazing how many Albertans think that the cost of heath care is covered by their heath care premium payments. Alberta needs a strong leader and government to protect Alberta and Albertans. Albertans per capita pay more federal income tax than Canadians in Quebec and Newfoundland once transfer payments are included. British Columbia and Alberta combined have more population than Quebec but less seats representing us in Ottawa and in the Senate. A farmer in Ontario can sell grain on the open market but an Albertan has no choice and can be sent to jail for doing the same as his eastern counterpart.
How is this equal, especially in a so called free democratic country? It’s embarrassing.
Albertans pay more federal tax – have unequal representation in the federal government – less freedoms and rights compared to an eastern Canadian.
So, we pay more for fewer rights and less representation. This needs to stop and Albertans are looking for a leader to correct this unbalance and stand up for Albertans.
The constitution is on Alberta’s side; all we need to do is exercise our rights.
Its time for Alberta to stop being pushed around and stand up for it rights.
Run says : I absolutely agree with this !
I am curious if this independence movement has anything to do with the libertarian party or movement?
Limited Government with a proper role improper role.
I oppose socialism, communism and democracy and believe in the ideals of soething very closely related to the Early American Republic.
The rule of a constitutional law vs mob rule or any other arbitrary form of rule.
A system wherein the people are not subject to the government but in word and deed free persons.
Socialism and communism are much the same the only real differance is in socialism the people vote themself into a type or form of servitude.
I am an American and have the same fear of American socialism, communism.
Though they may not have the same degree of socialism/ communism the elelments of such a system is still very much present.
Higher taxes less jobs more poverty and more governmental control over the people as a whole or a majority.
There is as you may or may not be aware a movement for a Canadian Confederacy or an effort for both Canadians and Americans to work for a common cause Independence from a centralized socialist type of government and more for a constitutional republic.
I would be curious to hear your comments and or feelings on the matter.
Mostly views more then feelings on the topic.
Live Free or Die!
PM Harper continues to demonstrate the perception that any PM who hopes for reelection must pander to Quebec. Call their bluff? Un-Canadian!
Rather than cater to a group of extortionists, we should be reviewing our options within & without Confederation. What do we have to fear?
