The success of education in Alberta is essential not only to Alberta’s prosperity but to its future economic survival. The new education plans explains how to address some critical points facing Alberta’s education problems. The plan explains how Alberta can achieve not only the issue of attracting young professionals to study in Alberta but also lays out a plan to help the Alberta worker shortage problem. See “Push Education in a new and bold brand new Direction” plan detailed below.
Education is not only important because of the obvious reasons; it also attracts young smart people to our province. Not only is an educated workforce required to build Alberta’s future economy, it is the type of emigration and immigration that any jurisdiction would envy.
Many of our students in our post secondary institutions are from out of province. Many of these students graduate and stay in Alberta to work and therefore become Alberta tax payers and spend their pay checks in Alberta contributing to the Alberta economy.
The Plan – Education
1. Offer to pay for all post secondary tuition for Students in Alberta. This will encourage students to move and study in Alberta.
2. Once students graduate from postsecondary institutions they will receive a five year period of no provincial income tax. This would not only be an incentive but will help young Albertans get a good start in life and their profession.
3. If students are from out of province and they have remained in Alberta and have been employed for three years, they will receive a check for three thousand dollars.
This incentive plan will make people want to be educated and live in Alberta. As young professionals are attracted to Alberta they will contribute greatly by paying provincial income tax.
One problem is that Alberta currently does not have the post secondary institutions in place to handle all the new students that would be attracted.
The Alberta government would have to build several post secondary institutions, doubling the current capacity. Alberta would achieve this by offering P3 type financing where private industry funds and builds the institutions, when complete the Alberta governments pays back the private industry over a ten year period.
In addition, to encourage private industry to P3 the project they receive an additional tax break as a percentage of the project.
Not only would this plan be good for educating our workforce it would also be an incentive for young smart people to move and live in Alberta.
This plan would also help the skilled worker shortage in Alberta.
